Do You Act Like a Slacker or a Leader?

Do you think of yourself as a Leader in your company or in your area of expertise?

Many people who identify as leaders actually strike me as slackers.  A slacker is a person who, in essence, enjoys giving instructions or direction but does nothing to further their career or business.

Does anyone on your Mastermind Team, including you or your up-line, fit this description?  These are some hints that could be useful to you.

Leader: Gives encouragement and thanks to the team

Slacker: Hasty to criticise and slow to offer compliments

Leaders hold themselves to a higher level than those in their team.

A slacker is someone who sets high standards for their team but doesn't hold themselves to the same standards.

A leader sets an example for their team and serves as a role model for them.

Slacker: Accompany the throng without assuming any initiative or taking charge.

A leader is someone who has a strong belief in their business and guides new team members through the process of growth, which includes learning the business and overcoming difficulties.
Slacker: Persuades someone to join his or her squad, then dumps them off on someone else or just shoves them aside (also known as "sign and drop").

Which of these qualities most accurately characterises you and your teammates?  Recognise your own shortcomings.

Don't forget that a leader needs to guide and support people as they develop.  He or she will cause his or her teammates to suffer from the same failing mindset if they lose integrity and do nothing.  A group will mimic its leader and what their leader does.
